This position performs surveying and technical GIS duties in support of department operations. Performs land surveys to determine location and measurement of points, elevations, lines, areas and contours for construction, map making, land division and other purposes. Researches previous survey data, maps, deeds, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys. Drafts of proposed utility design, survey plats and maps. Updates and maintains utility mapping data. Assists other departments with construction and computer aided drafting needs. Assists in the determination of new utility service requests. Performs related duties.

Qualifications

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Knowledge of departmental and safety policies and procedures. Knowledge of land surveying principles. Knowledge of Geographic Information System hardware, software, tools and techniques. Knowledge of computers and job related software programs. Skill in developing and interpreting plans and specifications. Skill in the use of surveying equipment. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communication.
