Accounting Manager

Listing Summary

The City of Milton is looking for a highly qualified individual to serve as our Accounting Manager.

This position will perform accounting functions that are advanced and varied in scope according to General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). The primary responsibilities of this position are preparing, maintaining, analyzing, verifying, and reconciling financial transactions, records as well as providing administrative oversight and management of awarded grants.  This position reports to the Finance Director.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local laws in regard to the City’s financial business; informs the Finance Director of any material irregularities or financial problems
  • Analyzes and reconciles accounting data and transactions that require knowledge of complex rules and regulations and use of advanced research and/or problem-solving skills
  • Maintains responsibility for financial data integrity, analyzing records, interpreting financial transactions, and general ledger maintenance
  • Maintains the general ledger including reconciling monthly bank accounts, posting daily cash receipts and journal entries from subsidiary ledger accounts and preparation of the balance sheet
  • Processes accounts receivable invoices and monthly statements
  • Prepares custom and standard accounting reports and provides information to the Finance Director
  • Assists internal auditors and outside auditors in the examination of departmental accounting activities and preparation of audit working papers; implements corrective action as the result of audit findings to improve financial operations, statements and controls
  • Manages fixed asset accounts and depreciation calculations
  • Administers and oversees the City’s awarded grants program ensuring compliance with all Federal, State and local requirements
  • Performs related duties as required

MINIMUM TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or Business and five (5) years of responsible, professional work experience in the areas of Accounting and/or Finance, or any combination of education and experience, are required for this position.

Preferred qualifications:  One (1) year of local government accounting or finance experience; intermediate knowledge of GAAP and GASB regulations and experience preparing financial reports and analysis

Salary:

Annual salary starting at 75,952 depending on qualifications, full-time, non-exempt, with excellent benefits.
