The City of Cornelia’s Finance Department is seeking an experienced Administrative Assistant to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be familiar with MS Office, MS Work, Excel Spreadsheet, and other general office programs and equipment. We are looking for somebody who is reliable and hardworking with great communication skills.

Responsibilities

Serves as a receptionist or the first point of contact for the public. Answers telephone calls & greets visitors, ascertains nature of business, directs callers/visitors to appropriate personnel. Provide information/assistance regarding department services, activities, procedures, fees and/or other issues. Respond to routine questions or complaints as well as research problems/complaints; initiates problem resolutions. Receives moneys in payment of various fees/services; records transactions and issues receipts; balances cash drawer; and forwards revenues as appropriate.

Manage/file email documents and email correspondence, utilize office equipment such as printers, photocopy, etc. Monitor office supplies (Stationary etc.) and report when there are shortages. Processes incoming/outgoing mail: sorts, organizes, opens and/or distributes mail; signs for packages; processes outgoing mail through postage machine. Process a variety of documentation associated with departmental operations within designated timeframes. Receive, review, type, and/or distributes documentation. Performs data entry functions, maintain files and records so they remain updated and easily accessible, and perform other office duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Proven office experience in a clerical position or similar
  • Familiarity with office procedures and basic accounting principles
  • Working knowledge of office devices and processes
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office
  • Great organizational and multi-tasking abilities
  • Fluency in English is mandatory, conversational Spanish would be an asset
