This position is responsible for performing routine and extensive unskilled and skilled work assignments associated with grounds maintenance of sites under city obligation. Operate mowing tractors, riding mowers and push mowers, trimmers, edgers and blowers. Mow and clean athletic fields; mark out boundaries on sports fields, water, fertilizes and aerates fields. Performs pre-trip inspections to vehicle and equipment. Clean and perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment. Perform routine laboring and maintenance duties when grounds keeping work has been completed. Perform traffic flagging duties at work site to ensure safe working environment. Perform related duties.

Qualifications

Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations. Possession a valid Georgia driver’s license. Knowledge and skill in the basic methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance activities. Knowledge of mowing and shrub, hedge and tree pruning procedures and techniques. Knowledge of city and departmental policies associated with the rules, regulations and operating procedures related to the maintenance of grounds areas, facilities and equipment. Knowledge of safe working methods and procedures. Skill in safely operating a variety of heavy-duty grounds maintenance equipment. Skill in performing heavy manual labor functions related to grounds maintenance. Skill in communicating effectively with others.

Work is performed outdoors while standing, stooping, bending, crouching or walking. Lift light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and distinguishes between shades of color. Exposure to cold or inclement weather, noise, dust, dirt, grease and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as goggles or gloves.
