CLASSIFICATION TITLE: PRINT SERVICE SPECIALIST SR.

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION:The purpose of this classification is to provide graphic design and layout and print services for county departments, to include operating print equipment and generating various graphic and print projects.
Reports to Communications Administrator.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Develop, design, organize and produce from concept to completion innovative design and layout projects; provides direction and assistance to other employees.

Processes various printing projects in print shop to produce letterhead, envelopes, business cards, forms, brochures, manuals, copies, and other printed materials.

Reviews printing requests; determines/calculates requirements for each job; proofreads material to be printed.

Prepares projects; may shoot photography to enhance layout.

Processes projects through various equipment for copying, printing, collating, hole punching, folding, stuffing, stitching, numbering, cutting, assembling, stapling, gluing, packaging, or other activity as outlined in project specifications.

Operates various machinery and equipment associated with department activities, which may include an, collator, stitchery, folder, paper drilling machine, electric punch, electric binder, automatic numbering machine, high speed copy machine, shrink wrap machine, perforation/scoring machine, paper cutter, card slitter, floor jack, calculator, or telephone.

Performs various tasks associated with graphic design software and print/digital operations, which may include mixing chemicals to develop negatives, measuring temperature of developer, measuring distance in stitches, checking straightness of folds, checking samples for setup, setting up equipment for operation, installing/aligning machine assemblies, or stacking/lining up paper.

Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep computer, office, or print shop equipment in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, oiling equipment, replacing ink/toner cartridges, replacing paper, backing up data, cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment; coordinates service/repair activities as needed.

Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.

Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other software programs.

Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, print requisitions, or other documents.

Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, print requisitions, photographs, policies, procedures, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.

Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, customers, vendors/suppliers, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

GRAPHIC ARTS:

Completes certification and operates computer programs such as Adobe Photoshop 6.0 and Adobe PageMaker 6.5, InDesign, etc.

Performs typesetting for customers; scans in photographs, art work, and documents for changes, additions, and/or creation of the customer’s needs.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in graphic design/print, communications or a related degree field with three to five years of experience in development of dynamic and innovative graphics and layouts, programs, and communications. Must have proven ability in concept development, layout composition, color and design themes and/or screen print. Must be proficient in Photoshop, PageMaker, InDesign and have advanced, effective knowledge and use of InDesign and Illustrator. A valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record required. Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

SELECTION PROCEDURE: Selection will be made from a register of eligible applicants that may be established by education, work experience, test score, personal interview, credit check, criminal history, driving history (copy of driver=s license may be required), drug screen, and/or physical examination.
