Job Description
This Senior Assistant County Attorney position will be responsible for working with claims and state and federal court litigation, including personal injury, property damage, constitutional, and Section 1983 litigation matters. The incumbent will also be responsible for providing day-to-day advice and counsel to the Gwinnett County Judicial System, the District Attorney’s Office, the Solicitor General’s Office, the Medical Examiner’s Office, as well as other duties as assigned under the general supervision of a Deputy County Attorney.

Grade
The grade for this position is 107. The salary begins at $90,057 and will be commiserate with years of experience.

Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate
  • 10 years of experience as an attorney
  • an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
  • Member in good standing with the Georgia Bar and admitted to practice in the Superior Courts of Georgia, The Court of Appeals for the State of Georgia and the Georgia Supreme Court and other courts as necessary
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Federal litigation and courtroom experience as a first chair attorney
  • Experience as a local government attorney
  • Excellent writing skills

Department of Law
The Law Department is comprised of a County Attorney, three Deputy County Attorneys, seven Senior Assistant County Attorneys, an Associate County Attorney, an Open Records Officer, and a professional legal clerical staff.  Law Department attorneys primarily represent the governmental entity of Gwinnett County, but they also represent county employees, elected officials, boards, authorities, and other related governmental organizations. Divisions include Infrastructure, Government and Administrative Services, and Litigation.
