JOB SUMMARY

This position is primarily responsible for supervising and performing skilled and semi-skilled work in support of the City’s Public Works Department – Water & Sewer Division.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supervises and performs maintenance and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection system.
  • Determines most efficient manner of accomplishing assigned work; assigns and supervises the completion of work orders.
  • Enforces safety procedures and regulations.
  • Operates all equipment to accomplish department projects.
  • Prepares and coordinates maintenance and service schedules.
  • Responds to emergency calls and citizen complaints.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum Education and Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Five years of experience working in the Water Distribution & Sanitary Sewer Collection Industry.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

Possession of a valid Georgia Driver’s license and possess a CDL license Class A.

Within 6 Months:

Must be a Certified Confined Space Competent Person.

Must be a Certified Trench Safety Competent Person.

Must possess a Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection license.

 

Additional Requirements:

Applicant must have a satisfactory motor vehicle report.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   

  • Skilled in EQUIPMENT operations (Backhoes, Trenchers, Pneumatic Mole, and Tapping Equipment).
  • Must have knowledge of all City lift station and ability to troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Ability to do locates using Maps, Radio detection, Ground Penetrating Radar, Pipehorn and metal detector.
  • Document existing utility locations with GPS and update records.
  • Knowledge of the methods and practices used in road repair.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and applicable safety precautions.
  • Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to understand, follow and implement oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to keep basic records.
  • Ability to plan, layout, motivate and supervise the work of others.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must have sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment. The work consists of continuous outdoor activity, frequent standing, sitting, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing, exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, mechanical hazards, fume/odor hazards, toxic waste/material hazards. Must be able to work in confined spaces; walk and work on slippery and uneven surfaces. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to grasp, hold objects and tools with full range of motion in wrists and arms. Must be able to walk occasionally for 6 to 8 hours per day or longer in necessary. Must have no impairments that limit work capabilities in year-round weather conditions. Must have no limitations that restrict shoveling of dirt for 6 to 8 hours per day. Must be able to climb ladders, crawl across pipelines, lift or carry 50 pounds while climbing ladder or steep banks. Must have no climbing or height restrictions up to 12 feet on a ladder or other equipment. Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must have hearing ability sufficient to understand general in-person and telephone conversation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work will typically be performed in an outdoor setting. While performing the functions of this position, the employee will be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional inclement weather. The work requires the use of safety devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
