Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Parks Crewleader. This position, under general supervision, performs grounds activities and landscaping, repairing and maintaining playground equipment and facilities, and related projects. Work involves supervising an assigned work crew; ensuring the upkeep of grounds; supporting the grounds keeping activities through training and maintenance of supplies; maintaining equipment and mowers; keeping bathrooms clean, orderly, and operational; and maintaining a safe environment.
Hours of operation: Employment in this full time position may require both regular and irregular work hours to include frequent weekends and nights or holidays depending on the needs of the Authority.
Qualifications: Requires an Associate’s degree in turf management or related field supplemented by three years of grounds and facility maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Bachelor’s degree in turf management or a related field with experience in electrical, plumbing, irrigation and/or landscaping preferred. Valid category 24 ornamental and turf pesticide applicators license holder preferred. Must possess a valid State driver's license; CDL license preferred. Must be capable of obtaining CDL and pesticide license within 6 months of employment if not currently held.
The successful candidate must be a mature and highly capable individual and must demonstrate superb skills in team leadership and motivation. He/She must have excellent communication (both verbal and written), customer service, organization, and project management skills. The position requires a smart, dynamic, resourceful, reliable, highly motivated, self-starter who is pro-active, able to develop new protocols and procedures, and respond to unexpected challenges, oftentimes with limited outside guidance. The successful candidate will, at all times, maintain a keen awareness of the professional environment and ensure that all staff feel they are working in a positive workplace and being treated in a fair, respectful, and supportive manner by their colleagues and management. In order to succeed, the employee is expected to fully engage with the community and staff as well as assume a personal sense of ownership and pride in the Authority’s operations.
