Accounting Clerk

This position is responsible for processing payroll and accounts payables for all departments of the City of Austell. Applicants must be a professional who is willing to work cross-departmentally with accounting to ensure the entire business runs as smoothly as possible.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Collect and verify timekeeping information for all employee
  • Calculate pay according to hours worked
  • Manage and calculate taxes and deductions
  • Prepare and submit reports with payroll information to supervisor

Accounts Payable:

  • Review and verify invoices and check requests
  • Set invoices up for payment
  • Prepare and perform check runs
  • Prepare analysis of accounts
  • Maintain vendor files
  • Produce monthly reports
  • Provide supporting documentation for audits

Other Duties:

  • Answer phone calls regarding utility accounts and customer payments
  • Fill in for front cashier position when needed (i.e. lunches, vacations, etc.)


  • High school diploma required, associates degree in business or accounting preferred
  • Proven 1 to 3 years experience as a payroll clerk
  • Computer savvy with working knowledge of relevant software
  • Strong math and numerical skills
  • Excellent communication abilities with aptitude in problem-solving
  • 1-3 years accounts payable or general accounting experience
  • Experience with Mircosoft Office (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
