PROJECT ENGINEER – G22
Columbus Consolidated Government is currently seeking a Project Engineer. The Project Engineer will schedule and preside at design development project meetings to assist with planning, scheduling, and budgeting. Prepares or reviews contract plans and specifications for selected construction projects; works with architects and engineers outside of local government to develop construction plans and specifications; finalizes project plans, schedules, and budgets. Assists in the selection of architectural and engineering firms. Assists design team with the selection of building components and mechanical systems. Formats and prepares construction bid documents in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations; assists purchasing department with bid letting and opening. Oversees construction and performs construction administration duties; approves contract changes; approves payments to contractors; conducts periodic inspections; resolves problems or disputes related to construction projects; conducts final inspections. Reviews and approves commercial plans submitted for site development permits, minor land disturbances, or residential development permits. Provides technical support and guidance to engineers, inspectors, and contractors in the inspection of commercial development projects. Maintains the pavement management system inventory database; analyzes and provides candidate lists for resurfacing projects. Responds to public inquiries and provides information in regards to discharge problems and other issues. Maintains current flood plain maps. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree of Architecture or Building Science, Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field is required; one to three years of related experience. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Knowledge of the accepted principles and practices of civil engineering. Knowledge of the principles and practices of flood plain management. Knowledge of the principles and practices of building construction. Knowledge of the methods and techniques of construction design and specification development. Skill in construction project management techniques. Skill in problem solving and decision making. Skill in operating standard office equipment including work related computer applications. Skill in oral and written communication.
The Columbus Consolidated Government offers an exceptional compensation and benefits packet. The salary range for this position is $56,725.72 to $86,314.89 with starting salary dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. Benefits include the following:
