Position Summary:
The Reserve Police Officer Program is made up of POST certified police officers who wish to volunteer with the Kingston Police Department. Reserve Officers supplement the full-time officers in a variety of duties while also working beside them on patrol and other varied assignments. Becoming a Reserve Police Officer affords a volunteer an opportunity to maintain their chosen career while serving to help protect the citizens of the City of Kingston.
 
The Police Department does not offer financial compensation but provides the ability for Reserve Police Officers to work part-time jobs in an official capacity. All equipment becomes the responsibility of the Reserve Officer and is expected to be consistent with the approved uniform and issued equipment of the department.
A Reserve Officer is expected to make a strong commitment of 20-hours monthly.
Reserve Police Officers are subject to the same policies, rules, directives, regulations and orders as full-time employees and subject to the same penalties for acts of misconduct.
 
Duties:
Attends classroom, field and on the job training sessions, inclusive of but not limited to, defensive driving, the study of criminal and traffic laws, use of force, report writing, evidence collection, first aid, etc.
Responds to calls for assistance and/or help.
Patrol assigned areas for enforcement of laws and prevention of crime.
Issues warnings, citations and arrests violators.
Investigates suspicious conditions, activities or persons, and takes appropriate action.
Maintains a daily log of all activities.
Investigates and prepares detailed criminal and traffic reports.
Interviews suspects, prisoners, complainants, witnesses and victims to obtain information regarding crimes.
Testifies in criminal and traffic court cases.
Promotes positive community policing initiatives to foster good police/community relations.
Reports all incidents of an urgent and sensitive nature to a supervisor.
Able to perform a variety of duties and work in all types of weather.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; must be 21 years of age, a citizen of the United States and possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. GA P.O.S.T certification in good standing.
