TITLE: Finance Director
DEPARTMENT: Finance, City of Sylvester
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the City Manager, the Finance Director plans, organizes, directs and controls the activities of the Finance Department. This position is responsible for developing and implementing policies, procedures and practices to accomplish the department’s mission. The Finance Director is responsible for the custody and safekeeping of all city funds and monies ($2,000,000 budget) in addition to assuring the maintenance and efficient operation of the accounting system for all city departments. The Director works to streamline and improve the general supervision of all accounting processes in the City. The Director provides daily leadership to monitor the receipt, disbursement, and accounts of all city money as well as participation in accounting activities to maintain accounting control and to provide necessary financial records, reports, and statements. The Finance Director is a Department Head and works under the general direction of and is responsible to the City Manager. The salary for this position is up to $70,000 dependent upon experience and qualifications.
- Bachelors degree in accounting is required; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job. CPA is highly desirable.
- Experience in progressive government accounting and budgeting sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the finance department in order to direct, perform and coordinate work within the department, usually interpreted to require five to seven years of related experience.
- Must have a valid Georgia Driver License
