Traffic Signal Technician

This position is responsible for performing specialized work involving installation and maintenance of traffic signals, road signs, and pavement markings.

Essential Job Functions:  Installs and maintains traffic signals.  Installs traffic loops or signal detectors. Diagnoses and troubleshoots malfunctions in traffic signal devices.  Repairs and replaces signal lamps, lenses, and hardware.  Locates loops for construction and road repairs.  Cuts road surfaces for installation or repair of loops.  Counts traffic, pedestrian, bicycle and truck volume  and turning movements. Installs traffic signal poles.  Installs, repairs, and maintains traffic control signs to provide information, notices or warnings, such as street names, speed limits, stop signs, handicap notices, regulatory notices, river/creek names, bridges, county lines, road curves, E911, construction work zones, warnings and other signs.  Installs or places road barricades, road closing notices and detour signs.  Ensures that traffic signal installation, road sign placement, pavement markings, and related activities are conducted in compliance with applicable traffic control device regulations, standards, and specifications, including guidelines governing placement height, visibility, sign size, sign color, location on county right-of-ways, and other criteria.  Applies and maintains pavement markings or road surfaces, such as highway lanes, parking lot lines, intersection markings, pedestrian walkways, directional arrows, and other markings.  Performs manual tasks associated with projects.   Hauls, transports, loads, and/or unloads equipment and materials associated with projects.  Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, maintenance records, traffic volume charts or other documents.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications 
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by vocational/technical training in traffic control systems, traffic safety, and traffic sign construction/installation; supplemented by five (5) months previous experience and/or training involving traffic control systems, traffic safety, traffic sign construction/installation, and general construction trades. Must be able to obtain and maintain valid Georgia Department of Transportation Flagger Certification within six (6) months and IMSA Work Zone Certification, IMSA Level I Traffic Signal Certification and Level I Signs Certification within one (1) year. Valid Driver's License is required. Valid Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
