The City of Savannah, Georgia is seeking a Chief of Police.  Savannah offers great weather, nearby beaches, and a tradition of hospitality and cultural happenings.  It is home to a vibrant art and cultural scene that plays host to over 200 festivals each year focused on a variety of themes including music, food and film.  A growing Savannah Music Festival has garnered international acclaim as performers from Savannah and all over the world showcase talent in a variety of musical genres. This Chief of Police manages the daily operations of the Police Department, overseeing all matters related to police services; planning and implementing comprehensive community policing, law enforcement and public safety programs.  As a key member of the City Manager’s Leadership Team, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to embrace change and help guide the community through significant challenges.  Qualifications include:
 
·         Bachelor's Degree required in Police Administration, Law Enforcement, or Criminal Justice; Master’s Degree preferred; with seven years of experience in upper level police management; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
 
·         Graduate of the FBI Academy; or Graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Program or Command Officer Development Program required; comparable specialized police leadership and management training in ethics and integrity, emergency management, cultural and generational diversity, problem solving, and community policing will be considered.
 
·         Experience in providing upper level leadership in a police department that is comparable in size and complexity to the Savannah Police Department and that has been certified by CALEA for at least two consecutive accreditation periods is highly desired;
   
Salary for this position DOQ of the selected candidate.  Starting salary is expected to be in the range of $140,000 - $160,000 with a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement options and negotiable relocation expenses.
