Public Works - Laborer I – $10.50/hour
Responsibilities & Duties
Uses hand tools, cleans, sweeps, and performs basic maintenance tasks (e.g. cleans, oils, fuels and greases equipment, etc.)
Performs a variety of horticultural task (e.g. mowing, mulching, weed whacking, tree trimming, etc.).
Picks up and delivers mail, supplies and equipment.
Locates and removes refuse from County property or County Right-of-Way.
Operates a pick-up truck and a truck with a plow.
Assists higher level maintenance staff at job sites (e.g. shoveling, digging, loading and unloading).
Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
Adjust work assignments and schedules in the event of an emergency to assist in emergency preparedness, response and recovery.
Depending on assignment may require emergency management training, licensure and/or certification.
Other duties as deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the Public Works Department.
Education and Experience
·High School diploma or equivalent.
·Must possess and maintain in good standing a valid Driver’s License.
·Completion of approved DOT flagging class.
Knowledge of proper use, handling and care of small tools and equipment used for the position.
Able safely lift heavy objects.
Able to properly operate hand tools and non-complex motorized equipment.
Able to drive light duty pickup truck.
Able to apply acquired knowledge of procedures, rules, regulations and services applicable to the assigned office.
Able to listen to, understand and follow verbal and written instructions, policies and procedures.
Able to effectively work in all weather conditions.
Able to multi-task.
Able to communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public.
Able to consistently walk, use hands and arms to operate tools, and to lift and/or move a minimum of 80 pounds.
