The City of Thomaston is accepting applications for the position of Fire-Fighter (full-time).  The City of Thomaston Fire Department is a fire suppression department working twenty-four (24) hour shifts.  The position starting pay is $30,823.84 annually (Certified), $29,216.91 annually (Non-Certified). 
Qualifications include:
Certified Applicants:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must successfully pass criminal and previous employment background
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screen and physical agility screen.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the geography of the City and/or ability to gain such knowledge in six-months or less.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform a variety of firefighting duties, evolutions, and operations.
  • Demonstrated skill in the effective and safe use of fire fighting tools, apparatus, equipment, and communication devices.
  • Demonstrated ability to effective communicate orally and in writing.
  • Must possess a valid State of Georgia Class A or B operator’s license and a clean driving history (at least 3 years prior to hire date).
  • Must maintain a valid State of Georgia Driver’s license and be able to be insured through the City insurance carrier guidelines.
  • Must be physically capable to perform strenuous work under hazardous conditions, for lengthy periods of time with exposure to smoke, fire, and other hazardous chemicals.
  • Must be physically capable to climb ladders and work at heights in excess of 50 feet.
  • Must maintain a current CPR card and training to the level of 1st Responder.
  • Availability to be reached by telephone at all times.
  • Must be able to perform all essential duties listed on the current job description.
 
Non-Certified Applicants:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must successfully complete the Georgia Fire Academy curriculum (city will only send candidates once at the City’s expense).
  • Once graduate the Academy must meet all certified applicant qualifications.
