Applications are being accepted for the Effingham county Zoning Administrator position. The employee will coordinate all private development related activities and act as the County’s Flood Plain Manager.  Duties will include, but are not limited to: Receives rezoning applications, answer citizens’ questions regarding land use issues, review and accept application for rezoning, variance, conditional use, ponds, residential/rural business, advertised public hearings, mail all public notice letters and post all public hearing signs, prepares notices and packets to be sent to the Planning Board members and Commissioners; attends Planning Board and Commission meetings makes presentations; collects information to make presentations, oversees the updating and maintaining of the subdivision ordinance, zoning ordinance, flood ordinance, and all other codes and ordinances used with the Zoning Office, makes decisions on all zoning and subdivision related matters, meets with developers and requested and at pre-application, review of subdivision and site construction plans for proposed construction and improvement projects to ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances; interprets codes and ordinances as requested, assists with inspections of subdivision and commercial constructions projects for compliance with NPDES and local erosion and sedimentation ordinance compliance, review and approve building permit applications for water/sewer, flood damage protection, and other applicable environmental ordinances, maintains CRS program so citizens receive maximum insurance discounts feasible; obtain and review elevation certificated from land surveyors; make flood zone determinations as requested by citizens, real estate and insurance agents; review and approve applications for land disturbing activity permits; signs and issue permits, supervisor and work with the Code Enforcement officer on all zoning ordinance enforcement issues, update Comprehensive Plan, initiate all Development of Regional Impact (DRI) applications, Liaison with Coastal Regional Center (CRC) and Department of Community Affairs (DCA) regarding any land use issues.
Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning, engineering, architecture or related field; supplemented by four (4) years previous experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience with provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.  Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s license.  Must be able to obtain certifications in Erosion and Sedimentation Control.
