MUST MEET MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year previous experience and/or training that includes typing/word processing and transcription. Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
TYPING SPEED: 50 WPM REQUIRED. (If requested by the department, Typing Test will be administered at a later date. Application will be reviewed and sent to the department if all other minimum qualifications are met.)
NATURE OF WORK: The purpose of this classification is to accurately transcribe, from taped recordings, official court proceedings to be filed as the official records of the court and to perform general secretarial duties.
SOME OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES INCLUDE: Transcribes civil and criminal trials, pleas, motions, and revocations; assembles transcripts; punctuates and constructs sentences from tapes; proofs, spell checks, and checks legal site transcript; files transcripts with Clerk of Court; makes copies of transcripts and evidence; serves as liaison to public either by phone or in person; creates index cards for cases and notes; maintains files for notes and tapes; maintains logs for evidence; types letters and memos; completes requisitions for supplies; estimates cost of requested transcripts; sends out bills for transcripts and services; answers telephone; prepares older files to be sent to Archives; receives payments and documents payments. Performs other related duties as required.
Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of lightweight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
SELECTION PROCEDURE: Selection will be made from a register of eligible applicants that may be established by education, work experience, test score, personal interview, credit check, criminal history, driving history (copy of driver’s license may be required), drug screen, and/or physical examination.
