The City of Stone Mountain is seeking qualified applicants for a Criminal Investigator to be responsible for conducting investigations into criminal incidents that occur in the jurisdiction of the City of Stone Mountain. 

Minimum Requirements:  Applicant must be a legal U.S. citizen at least 21 years of age.  High school diploma or equivalent required.  Applicant must have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and have no prior convictions by any State or by the Federal Government of any crime the punishment for which could have been imprisonment in a Federal or State Prison institution, nor have been convicted of sufficient misdemeanors so as to establish a pattern of abuse of the law. Candidate must have been previously certified by Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training as a Peace Officer in good standing with at least five (5) years of full-time law enforcement experience, with at least two (2) years in an investigatory role. Applicants should have previously completed at least eighty (80) hours of post-academy training related to criminal investigation fundamentals, crime scene processing, or similar coursework.

Additional Requirements:  Applicants must successfully pass a medical examination, drug screen, psychological screen, and a thorough background check.  Background investigation will include criminal and driving histories, work history, personal and professional references, and credit history.  Applicants must be free of any serious disciplinary violations (those violations that result in suspension without pay, demotion, or termination) with the past year.  Applicant must be proficient in the use of a Windows-based personal computer.

Job Duties: This position is for a criminal investigator, reporting to the division commander and may include general law enforcement and patrol duties, though primary duties will involve conducting investigations into crimes committed within the jurisdiction.  The investigator may be assigned a variable work schedule with on-call status after-hours.
