This position is responsible for enforcing the county codes and ordinances for Henry County. Work also involves investigative tasks and case preparation duties.

This is a full-time position that typically works 40 hours per week.

Examples of Duties

Enforces the County codes and ordinances by responding to complaints issued and interprets these codes and ordinances for citizens; updates knowledge constantly of current codes and ordinances passed by the Commissioners; issues citations for violators of codes and ordinances and conducts investigations of violators, which includes gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing final case documentation for presentation in court; testifies in court as an expert witness; serves court summons and subpoenas; collects on returned checks written to any department within the County; escorts houses that are transported through Henry County to ensure that proper safety requirements are met; performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from High School or GED equivalent.

One year of experience in a Code Enforcement Department, Building Inspection, Development Inspection or similar environment dealing with investigative and case preparation work.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Must be 21 years of age and possess and maintain a valid Georgia Drivers license.


Knowledge, Skill, Abilities/ Supplemental Information

Knowledge of the codes and ordinances of Henry County; knowledge of County and department policies and procedures concerning code enforcement; knowledge of written and verbal standard operating procedures; knowledge of proper techniques in conducting investigative work; knowledge of basic legal procedures and case preparation; effective oral and written communication skills; ability to establish effective interpersonal relations.

Annual Leave

Annual Leave (vacation) is earned as follows:

  • 0 months – 5 years: 10 days per year
  • 6 years – 15 years: 15 days per year
  • 16 years – 20 years: 20 days per year
  • 21 years and over: 23 days per year

Sick Leave is earned at the rate of one day per month for a total of 12 days per year.

Employees receive nine paid holidays per year.

Insurance benefits are offered to employees working over 32 hours per week.

New employees are eligible for insurance coverage on the first day of the month following one full month of employment.

Blue Cross Dental coverage is provided free to the employee. Employees can enroll spouse and children up to age 26 for $51.28 per month.

Life Insurance- The county provides life insurance for each employee. The amount is equal to one year's salary.

Long-Term Disability- The county provides long-term disability for each employee. The benefit starts after the employee is out of work for six months and continues until age 65.

Retirement is managed by GEBCorp. Employees are required to contribute a percentage of annual salary for the Defined Benefit Program. Also available is an optional 457b Deferred Compensation Program.
