Barrow County, Georgia, seeks a creative, experienced, and innovative Planning and Community Development Director with extensive planning experience and a proven track record of navigating complex planning and development issues.

Major Duties:
 
Under limited supervision, performs technical, administrative, supervisory, and professional work in directing and coordinating the activities of the Planning and Community Development Department. Work involves overseeing the day-to-day operation of the department with the goal of promoting and enhancing the quality of life for residents, visitors, property owners and businesses of Barrow County. Administers County ordinances and Federal and State laws as mandated. Advises Board of Commissioners on zoning and development issues and manages staff members. Reports to the County Manager.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
 
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in planning, urban studies, public administration, or related field and six to nine years of experience in rural and urban planning at the local government level; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.  Prefer certifications from Georgia Planning Association, Georgia Association of Zoning Administrators, and American Planning Association or the ability to acquire any certifications necessary within the first year of employment.
