POSITION: ASSISTANT MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
SALARY RANGE: $43,408 - $71,623

Job Summary: Under supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent, provides backup support in managing field and office activities in the areas of either construction, maintenance or solid waste operations for the County. Participates in the planning, organizing, directing and coordinating of the work of Maintenance Supervisors, Equipment Operators and Maintenance Workers. Oversees cost accounting and provides cost estimates on projects. Prepares weekly and monthly work schedules; assists with prioritizing projects, resolving problems and determining best courses of action. Coordinates and oversees operational and safety training. Serves on the Critical Work Force in the Disaster Plan and is on 24-hour call for emergencies. Provides weekly reports; counsels employees, resolves grievances and coordinates training activities. Performs public relations activities. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma supplemented by advanced training in construction, engineering or a closely related field; and four (4) years’ experience in Public Works operations with a management role; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Possesses knowledge of traffic control and use of Manual for Uniform Traffic Control. Possesses thorough knowledge of associated emergency responses. Possesses ability to operate a computer using appropriate software. GIS principles and software is a plus. Possesses knowledge of traffic laws and regulations; ability to make minor equipment repairs. Possesses ability to prepare and present accurate, reliable reports. Georgia Commercial Pesticide License in both Right-of-Way and Aquatic Pests required. Possesses effective oral and written communication skills. EMPLOYEE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE AND WEAR APPROVED STEEL TOE PROTECTIVE FOOTWEAR DURING NORMAL WORKING HOURS. Must be on call on a 24-hour basis. Valid Georgia driver's license and background security check required.
