POSITION SUMMARY:
 
The Heart of Georgia Altamaha Regional Commission (HOGARC)is a seventeen county regional planning and intergovernmental coordinating  that focuses on issues critical to the region’s success, including growth and development, transportation, geospatial solutions, services for older adults and workforce development.
 
The Regional Planner will be responsible for working in collaboration with the regions local governments in the preparation of the regions planning efforts including but not limited to comprehensive planning, transportation planning, hazard mitigation planning and other technical planning and plan implementation assistance.
 
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILIES:
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of city, county, and regional studies/plans requiring, research, and planning recommendations on topics including, land use, housing, and transportation; 
  • Provide assistance to member governments and other staff with identifying, developing, and implementing needed plans, studies, or reports; 
  • Provide assistance in updating or preparing comprehensive plans, solid waste management plans, transportation plans, housing studies, TMDL implementation plans, hazard mitigation plans or other tasks; 
  • Provide preparation, coordination and technical planning assistance in the development of long range regional plan, compiling and synthesizing data, identifying needs and opportunities, preparing documents and working closely with stakeholders throughout the region to build consensus for a regional vision; 
  • Serve as a liaison for member governments to local, state, and federal agencies to support planning and project implementation within the region and state. 
  • Attend various meetings throughout the region, as well as periodic presentations delivered to local governments or partner agencies, and regional council (some work related commitments will occur outside of normal business hours); 
  • Perform other duties assigned, to support goals and objectives. 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
•Skill in oral and written communications;
 
•Skill in public speaking;
 
•Excellent analytical and organizational skills;
 
•Proficient in standard office equipment, Microsoft Office, and related software applications;
 
•Possess strong interpersonal skills, communication skills and conflict resolution skills.
 
•Ability to independently think through assignments comprehensively and creatively;
 
•Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and precisely through a combination of verbal, written and graphic means;
 
•Ability to present to a variety of audiences, from small groups of internal technical staff to larger groups of external public and private stakeholders;
 
•Skill in oral and written communications;
 
•Skill in public speaking;
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (equivalent combination acceptable):
•Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 
• Master’s Degree in planning, public administration or other related field.
• Directly related experience with comprehensive planning.
 
Salary DOE + competitive benefits package.
