General Definition of Work
Incumbent in this class performs operational duties related to providing crisis intervention services to crime victims and their families through the Victim/Witness Advocacy Program in the Coweta Solicitor’s Office. Responsibilities include assisting crime victims and their families with compensation claims and victim impact statements, providing information regarding the Victim Bill of Rights and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Victim Witness Coordinator.

Coordinate efforts to serve crime victims from the time of arrest.
Develop relationships and internal processes to facilitate the gathering of crime victim information from law enforcement from time of arrest.
Provides crisis intervention services to crime victims and their families.
Provides notification to victims of court dates.
Provides information and advocacy regarding Temporary Protective Orders.
Accompanies victims and their families to scheduled court hearings.
Establishes and maintains communication with appropriate prosecutors regarding relevant case information.
Assists prosecutors with correspondence to crime victims and their families.
Provides victims and their families with information regarding the Victim Bill of Rights.
Completes required case documentation and compiles monthly statistical reports.
Assists crime victims and their families in completing victim compensation claims and impact statements.
Performs administrative tasks to support the Victim/Witness Advocacy Program as required.
Assists in providing educational training to volunteers, interns, and community members.
Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent customer service.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of practices and principles of customer service; general knowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing victim/witness programs; general knowledge of modern principles and practices related to crisis intervention and client confidentiality; ability to communicate Community resources associated with criminal crisis intervention and the ability to perform effective crisis intervention; ability to interview crime victims and their families; ability to communicate effectively with persons of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds; general knowledge of the practices and procedures related to office operations, personal computers and related software; ability to document information gathered from crime victims and perform effective legal case management; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to prepare concise written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with court officials, State and local law enforcement officials, associates and the general public.
Education and Experience
Course work equivalent to the academic requirements of an Associate’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, counseling, or a related field; and one (1) year experience working in crisis intervention, or trauma and violence safety assessment and planning; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above.
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires sitting, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Favorable background history as determined by review of Local, State and Federal records.
Valid driver’s license in the State of Georgia with a favorable driving history (MVR).
