Configures, installs, manages, supports, coordinates and recommends improvements for the development and administration of the City-wide computer network. Computer network includes devices connected to or inter-connecting the City network. Works on PM issues and break-fix tasks, participates in projects, installs network equipment and software, and supports the network and other internal IT staff as well as city staff as Tier 2 help desk. Also facilitates limited workstation support to include advanced configuration of systems, advanced installations, troubleshooting and user training/support. The position requires that the Systems Administrator exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to complex systems and security issues that impact City-wide operations. Will work with Senior Systems Administrator to ensure all tasks are completed in an appropriate amount of time and in an accurate fashion. Participates in IT security related tasks as assigned.
Configures, installs, and maintains servers, software, storage, personal computers, system software, firewalls, wireless equipment, cameras, printers, routers, bridges, switches, security related technologies, cabling, Internet connectivity, and other networking technologies.
Configures, installs, and maintains server farms, virtual server environments, and storage services as well as personal computers, system software, printers, servers, antivirus, Software Patching/WSUS deployment, and the active directory environment, etc.
Performs system administration functions to include assessing and resolving problems arising from server hardware, workstation network connectivity, and Microsoft server operating systems, GPOs, advanced endpoint protection issues and other security tasks. Should be familiar with hypervisors and other hyper converged tools.
Oversees the adherence to policies and practices related to the fault management of the City-wide network; including verification of system back-up procedures and testing of system backups, disaster recovery procedures, and ongoing network management using various diagnostic tools.
Identifies and reviews key baseline statistics for system monitoring. Analyzes systems performance on a routine basis, identifying any potential problem areas. Will be responsible for various reporting requirements to IT leadership.
Performs security and user administration tasks to include virus protection, security assessments, security policies and parameters, and user/group security development.
Prepares and maintains technical documentation and procedures related to the city-wide network including, but not limited to hardware inventory and user requests.
Provides user support, training and technical assistance along with all other members of the IT team.
Communicates with outside vendors who specialize in data center technologies, server hardware, and software implementations.
Will participate in rotating on-call duties and is expected to be available for problem resolution 24/7.
Performs other duties as required by leadership.
Education and Experience:
Associate's degree in Computer Science or related field, Bachelor's degree preferred.
Three (3) years of related experience, with a minimum of two years supporting Microsoft software and networks. Should have demonstrable experience with Group Policy creation and troubleshooting. One year of related experience with virtualization (preferably AHV) and/or enterprise storage networks.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the minimum level of qualifications, stated above.
Licenses and Certifications:
Industry certifications are also desired such as Security+ (or related security certification), SANs, virtualization, MCP/MCSE, etc., preferred.
Valid Class C Driver's License and satisfactory motor vehicle record.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of system management concepts and communications equipment.
One year of project management experience.
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft® operating systems and software including, but not limited to Microsoft operating systems, database software, email and Office.
Strong analytical skills. Must be able to work independently and track work tasks in accordance with IT SOPs. Ability to document procedures and build knowledgebase for system related work.
Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
