Position: Deputy Sheriff

The Macon County Board of Commissioners is now accepting applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff in the Sheriff Department for Macon County. This position is responsible for the enforcement of local, state and federal laws under the direction of the Sheriff of Macon County. This is a full-time position. 
Areas of responsibility include: Patrols the County to detect and deter crime; Responds to calls for service; Enforces traffic laws by detecting speeds, intoxication, and other moving violations; Provides backup and assistance to other officers and emergency operations; Assists in gathering evidence and preparation for court cases; Serves warrants and other civil documents; Writes reports and maintains accurate paperwork for investigations and prosecutions; Transports all federal, state and local inmates to specified locations; Provides courtroom security and protection to inmates at locations as needed; Perform related duties as assigned.   
Minimum Job Requirements are: High school diploma or GED supplemented by post-graduate training and/or certification in law enforcement or related field; and valid State of Georgia Driver’s License.  Other desired qualifications include: Associates Degree or two (2) years of college or technical coursework in related field or three years of experience as a police officer, deputy sheriff or corrections officer, preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience satisfactory to the hiring authority.   
The ideal candidate must be able to communicate well and interact with other officials, departments and agencies and proficiently perform duties as assigned. Applicant will be required to pass a physical examination, drug and alcohol test and a criminal background check.
