Assistant Traffic Signal Installer

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to provide apprentice level assistance to an installer in the installation, repair, upgrade and maintenance of traffic signal systems and equipment.  

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Locates underground utilities; and requires careful digging to locate underground utilities.

Performs manual labor; digs ditches; mixes and pours concrete; and pulls cable wiring and runs piping. loads and unloads storage buildings and trucks; and loads traffic signals and unloads poles.

Assists with traffic signal installations; assists linemen; pulls wire; aligns signal heads; erects span wires; installs controller cabinets; and runs fiber optic cables.


Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; one year of experience in wiring installation or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required:  Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License, including appropriate endorsements.
