The purpose of the Fire Chief is to perform a higher level of supervisory and administrative duties, provide guidance and oversight to subordinate personnel who are engaged in emergency response operations for an assigned battalion.  Additionally, this position endeavors to protect life and property by enforcing existing state and local codes, ordinances, laws and regulations pertinent to the Fire Departments areas of responsibility.  Duties and responsibilities include, providing fire and emergency medical services to the citizens of Henry County.  This includes managing and directing the activities of personnel and planning and organizing department operations.  This position monitors personnel at emergency scenes, directing the activities of all divisions, performing administrative work, and works to achieve the highest level of cooperation and to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency for the department.
The County Manager and Deputy County Manager provides administrative support for the employee in this position.  The employee has sole responsibility for planning, designing, and carrying out goals, projects and programs.  The employee typically works very independently and seeks assistance and feedback from the Deputy Chief and Assistant Chiefs concerning problems and department operations.  The work is reviewed through conferences and observation of overall department operations.
 
This position is responsible for managing the Fire and EMS operations and performing administrative duties of the department. Complexity occurs in the diversity of tasks, multiplicity of guidelines, and in determining department needs as well as interpreting guidelines and policies for subordinates.  Difficulty also occurs in assuming command at an emergency scene and the responsibility of ensuring that subordinate personnel are able to deal with life and death situations
 
The purpose of this position is to provide supervision and direction to subordinates as well as to provide emergency medical and rescue services to the county.  This position has considerable impact on the health and wellbeing of county residents as well as an impact on the overall department operations and final results.  The position also establishes criteria, assesses program effectiveness with the County Manager and the Deputy County Manager and investigates a wide variety of unusual conditions, problems or questions.
