The person in this position is responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness and upkeep of all buildings owned and/or operated by the City of Douglasville. The incumbent must possess working knowledge of HVAC, electrical components, computers, painting, sheet rock repair, changing a range of lighting fixtures, plumbing and other items associated with building maintenance and upkeep. Maintains and repairs City facilities, equipment, and buildings by performing carpentry, electrical, painting, and plumbing. Installs, maintains, and repairs carpeting, floor tile, linoleum, wood floors, ceramic tile, and other surfaces. Operates mechanical floor buffers, drills, paint sprayers, and other shop machinery and tools as needed. Keep records on inventory and service and maintenance work performed. Identifies problems, contacts and supervises the work done by outside sources, ensuring the work is done properly. Cuts lawn using hand, power or riding mower; trims and edges around walks, flower beds, walls, etc. Plants grass, flowers, trees and shrubs; prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth. Sprays lawns, trees and shrubs with fertilizers and insecticides. Removes snow and ice from building walkways and steps; may rake leaves, clean and sweep litter. May perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment utilized in grounds keeping. Able to supervise and work an inmate crew. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requires High School diploma or equivalent two (2) years of technical coursework; five (5) years of experience in building maintenance or an Associates’ degree is preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires a valid Georgia CDL Driver’s License.
