Recreation Director.
MAJOR DUTIES:
The Director of Recreation and Sports Management oversees in the planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising all activities and functions of the Turner County Recreation Department, including preparing the annual budget and supervising all expenditures of the department. The ideal candidate will have a history of successful leadership and growth in sports, recreation and leisure management. This position will have the ability to craft a recreation program from the ground up. The salary range is dependent upon qualifications but is expected to be in the 4,000 to 55,000 per annum range. The individual selected will be quite literally rebuilding a recreation program from the ground up. The challenges will be inherent in such an endeavor. The reward will be a crafted program, that speaks to the talents of the individual selected.

JOB SKILLS/FUNCTIONS:
Manages Sport & Recreation Program and trains all employees in the use and operation of program activities. Coordinates supervises, schedules and trains all seasonal workers. Maintains volunteers’ code of conduct. Works closely with the Community to establish priorities, policies and strategic direction and takes an active role in all program areas. Supervises, monitor and oversee the concession operation at the complex. Provides monthly reports to the County Manager of concession operations. Assists in developing and enforcing departmental policies and procedures; establishing guidelines and work criteria for the department. Oversees and directs assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals; assists in establishing work schedules; may interview and recommend for hire personnel; recruits volunteers. Participates in preparing the annual departmental budget and verifying all expenditures within the department. Promotes good public relations with the community; advertises and promotes recreational activities. Coordinates work efforts with associates, boards, civic groups, County Manager, and Commissioners; coordinates work and carries out assignments of the BOC and County Manager. Ensures that all facilities are safe and well kept; ensures the safe operation of equipment. Supervises maintenance plans for facilities. Markets athletic and special events through media and other social media networks. Distributes brochures throughout Turner County. Works with the Turner County Board of Commissioners to identify and obtain new areas of funding and grants available. Attends meetings and athletic competitions as required. Participates in the Supervising of team drafts to ensure equality; supervises sports camps and coaches clinics; supervises the operation of concessions. Motivates and ensures proper training of subordinate employees and volunteers. Maintains appropriate inventory and issues equipment when needed. Meets with coaches and participants to see how programs can be improved. Establishes continuity between the G.H.S.A. manual and local rules. Approves all G.R.P.A. district/state rosters. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application. Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, or other documents. Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate. Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies the accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, or other software programs. Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review the status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Regular and routine attendance at work is required. Aids other employees or departments as needed. Performs other related duties as required.
