This position is responsible for performing a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the custodial care and maintenance of County buildings. This position will supervise schedules and locations for janitors/custodians. Work is assigned and reviewed by the Building Maintenance Manager.

Responsible for supervising, scheduling and locations of the janitorial staff.
Trains new janitorial staff members.
Changes light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
Sweeps, vacuums, mops, dust, shampoos, steam cleans, strips, waxes, polishes, and buffs floors, carpets, and furniture, etc.
Dumps trash cans and garbage and relines cans.
Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies; cleans spills; cleans drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc.
Washes windows, walls, metal and woodwork.
Cleans rain gutters; sweeps roofs and sidewalks.
Pick up litter from around buildings and grounds.
Opens and closes lock and unlock facilities as needed.
Distributes maintenance supplies.
Employees in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by proper authority.

Knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.
Knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs.
Knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building maintenance.
Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to establish effective working relationships.

Skill in prioritizing, delegating and scheduling assignments.
Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor, including frequent bending, walking, and heavy lifting. Requires stamina to maintain continuous physical effort for the duration of the shift on a regular basis.
Ability to lift more than 60 pounds.
Typically performed both indoors and outdoors of buildings and grounds. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible custodial experience with at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
- Valid State of Georgia Driver’s license.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desired that the applicant speaks Spanish.
