Performs work involving the operation of heavy construction, maintenance and right-of-way equipment for road maintenance and construction sites; performs safety checks and basic equipment maintenance tasks; performs associated labor duties at assigned worksites; maintains a safe environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)
Operates heavy equipment used for road and right-of-way maintenance.
Performs road and right-of-way repair and maintenance activities such as paving, pothole patching, grading, ditch maintenance, debris removal, culvert replacement, bridge building, mowing, salt distribution, tree removal, and sign maintenance.
Performs minor routine maintenance on equipment such as checking oil and fluid levels, checking tire pressure, and checking belts; keeps equipment clean; keeps vehicles stocked with appropriate materials and supplies.
Performs safety checks on all assigned equipment.
Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
All candidates to fill a vacant position in this classification must submit to and pass a drug-screening test after meeting the following minimum requirements:
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED; and,
Prefer five to ten of progressively responsible related paving experience; or,
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Driver's License (CDL Preferred).
Satisfactory (3 year) motor vehicle report.
