The purpose of this job is to assist the Transportation Director in planning and managing Newton County’s transportation projects, programs, and services. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: road design, project management, construction inspections, providing technical assistance to Public Works personnel, and performing additional tasks as assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are normal for the job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Manages road and bridge improvement projects.
Updates pavement condition ratings in GIS.
Obtains and manages professional contracts and services.
Serves as Project Manager and works with GDOT on federally funded projects.
Designs roadway and intersection improvements.
Manages the Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) program for Newton County.
Reviews developments submitted for approval for road related requirements.
Serves as development inspector for roadways and storm sewers.
Estimates material needs and establishes schedules for in-house construction projects.
Responds to complaints and inquiries by citizens that require engineering judgment.
Manages the bridge maintenance program.
Presents projects to the Board of Commissioners for approval.
Assists Public Works during emergencies and storm events.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Related Requirements:
Will be on call for emergencies related to transportation such as inclement weather, etc.
May be required to work on religious holidays.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Must work cooperatively with others.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
All candidates must submit to and pass a drug-screening test.
