The Town of Tyrone seeks highly qualified candidates to serve as its next Chief of Police. Tyrone (pop. 7,300) is a growing suburban community located approximately 30 miles south of Atlanta, GA in Northwest Fayette County.
The Police Department is a full-service, State Certified agency with 18 F/T officers, 2 Reserves, and 1 K9. The Chief of Police is responsible for the planning, development, and direction of all programs and policies of the agency. Duties include, but are not limited to: budget development and administration, policy development, and personnel administration.
Candidates for this position must possess the highest integrity, a thorough knowledge of modern police techniques, and proven management/leadership abilities.
A Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required. An advanced degree is preferred, as is graduation from a nationally recognized advanced law enforcement administration course. Must have a valid Georgia POST certification and a minimum of ten (10) years experience as a certified Peace Officer, including at least seven (7) years experience in a progressively responsible supervisory/management role.
