Traffic Signal/Sign Supervisor

This position performs and supervises the skilled work in the installation and maintenance of traffic signals and producing, erecting and maintaining traffic signs and street pavement markings.
Essential Functions: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of special duties does not exclude them from the position.
Plans, organizes, assigns, monitors and evaluates traffic signal and sign maintenance work.
Performs and monitors site evaluation for traffic signal appurtenances placement or maintenance and uses Independent judgment to determine the placement of appropriate traffic control signage.
Evaluates troubleshoots and performs minor repairs to traffic signals, including setting signal timing, programming controllers, assessing conflict monitors and replacing load switches.
Performs and monitors site evaluation for sign placement or maintenance and uses Independent judgment to determine the placement of appropriate signs along roadways.
Performs and evaluates traffic volume counts throughout the county.
Assembles installs and replaces signs, sign components, mounting posts, and overhead signs. Performs traffic sign maintenance work.
Secures work zone for crew Including proper signage and traffic control. Fabricates templates for street pavement markings.
Lays out, paints and maintains lane lines, center lines, railroad crossings, crosswalks, parking lots and other traffic markings.
Monitors daily Inventory and maintenance checks of traffic signal and sign maintenance truck and other assigned equipment.
Purchases materials and supplies as needed under department guidelines. Collects and maintains Information for signs and markings inventory purposes.
Responds to calls regarding traffic signal outages during regular business hours and "on-call" basis. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge. Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of county and department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of methods, machines, equipment, materials, tools, proper operation and maintenance of traffic signals, pavement markings, and traffic signs.
Knowledge of MUTCD, county codes and state and federal regulations related to traffic signal operations, signs and pavement markings.
Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions applicable to construction zone work. Knowledge of proper use, care, and handling of hazardous materials.
Skill in the processes Involved In making traffic signs.
Skill In the operation and maintenance of specialized equipment used in traffic signals, traffic signs, and markings.
Skill in signal timing, traffic counts and turning movement studies and analyses. Skill in traffic signal and sign warrant analysis
Skill in the proper usage and handling of hazardous materials. Skill in basic mathematical functions.
Skill in operating various equipment and tools including trucks, mobile and hand line stripers, forklifts, backhoes, loaders, and power tools.
Skill in reading and interpreting maps, diagrams and drawings. Ability to give and carry out verbal and written Instructions.
Ability to exercise Independent Judgment in the application of regulations and Installation of traffic signs and markings
Ability to follow effective safety practices and procedures.
Ability to establish effective traffic control around work sites and for special events.
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Working conditions may vary with the assignment. The employee may work in hazardous areas such as streets, rights-of-way, and medians and/or around heavy and potentially dangerous equipment. Typical assignments are outside and include working in inclement weather at dirty, wet, and noisy work sites.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Five years of progressively responsible experience in traffic signal maintenance and the production and Installation of traffic signs.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Must possess or obtain a valid State of Georgia CDL or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire.
1.) Associate's degree In Civil Engineering Technology or similar field.
2) IMSA - Level II Certification for Signal Maintenance
