Performs highly skilled mechanical and lead work involved in repair and maintenance of all types of county vehicles and construction equipment; work requires advanced mechanical skills in the most complex, technical repair and maintenance of heavy equipment and vehicles.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS; (All responsibilities may not performed by all incumbents.)
Carries out lead worker responsibilities including: training in job skills, assigning and directing work, making recommendations in performance appraisal, and reporting problems to supervisor.
Diagnoses problems with vehicles or equipment and repairs, or determines appropriate staff to perform the repairs based on ability, work load and experience; determines parts needed and assures that order is placed for parts not in stock.
Performs repairs and/or ensures that repairs assigned to others are completed by periodically checking the actual work performed against job work sheet.
Performs general and more complex overhaul and repair work on a variety of equipment ranging from automobiles to motor graders to include; inspects, adjusts and replaces necessary units and related parts, repairs and overhauls transmissions, differentials, fronts and rear assemblies, performs metal work by cutting and welding, repairs and paints automobiles and truck bodies, repairs and overhaul air compressors, hydraulic systems and other specialized related equipment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
