MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists in coordinating and executing the installation of new portions of the network for network expansion. Assists in documenting the design and construction of all building and administrative networks and their inter-connection. Attends various City meetings for the purpose of communications and/or gathering information. Collaborates with IT unit and city personnel for the purpose of meeting end-user needs with the best possible solutions according to CCG standards. Installs, configures, and troubleshoots data communication devices, including wireless access points, wireless clients, switches, and routers with appropriate supervision. Manages, under appropriate supervision, CCG network resources, including file servers, server operating systems, email systems, user accounts, and related components. Participates as a CCG resource in large-scale project implementations in providing technical support and other duties as assigned for the purpose of implementing key initiatives associated with the CCG's strategic Technology Blueprint. Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written technical support and/or conveying information. Researches resources and methods (e.g. journals, literature, vendor information, Internet, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining current working knowledge of new and emerging technologies as well as district/state/federal rules, regulations, and policies. Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions in existing network to ensure minimal user impact from equipment failures; monitors networks; troubleshoots network performance. Assists other personnel as may be required in the completion of their work activities. Facilitates work and communication between the units within IT. Participates in after-hours on-call rotation for the purpose of support to CCG data centers and data network. Serves as an information resource for the IT department to agencies, businesses, and the community. Serves as member of cross unit project teams for the purpose of implementing city and departmental initiatives. Performs other related duties, as assigned.
 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of server operating systems, including the latest Microsoft Windows or Windows Advanced Server Active Directory Operating Environment. Knowledge of local area networking, wide area networking, metropolitan area networking, and other computer-related technologies. Knowledge of computer installation, maintenance, and software support to perform computer troubleshooting. Knowledge of transport and framing protocols. Knowledge of math at a level to apply algebra and/or statistics. Skill in effective customer service. Skill in providing technical advice and instruction to non-technical staff. Skill in personal computer operation and ability to learn and operate a variety of software programs. Skill in Problem solving and analyzing complex situations and synthesize diverse information. Skill in maintaining records and writing reports. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communication.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required, preferably in Computer Sciences, Computer Technology, Management Information Systems or related field is required. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of  subordinate positions and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems; five years experience in network administration and/or technical support of a complex LAN/WAN environment; Server Clustering and Active Directory experience required.  Knowledge of virtualization (VMWare, Hyper-V), Office 365, SAN's, and Azure Government preferred. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Cisco CCNA certification or must hold a current Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certificate in Windows Server within 36 months of placement date. Within 48 months of placement, employee must achieve the missing certification listed above or possess any combination of experience and training, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the equivalent work. 

 

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table with intermittent standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping.  The employee must occasionally lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, and distinguish between shades of color.
