Pay Range:   $16.50-$18.50/hour & full benefits package


JOB SUMMARY: This position will Lead and participate in the maintenance and repair of County Jail facilities. General maintenance duties, which include electrical, mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, and construction in the maintenance and repair of the Jail and administrative facilities and equipment. 



  • Inspects buildings, parking lots, grounds, and equipment to ensure safe, well maintained conditions, identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.

  • Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g., wall switches, outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools.

  • Performs highly skilled work in jail area involving plumbing, carpentry, mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks on large number of specialized jail fixtures, appliances, locks, windows, cameras, etc. (e.g. 94 toilets, 33 showers, 96 sinks, 200 locking doors, etc.) often in severely space constricted chases and other areas.  

  • Performs minor painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g., preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and door hardware, etc.) 

  • Preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on HVAC system, changing filters, checking belts, and bearings.

  • Works in all weather conditions.

  • Confidentiality is a must in this position.

  • Safely uses all types of hand tools and non-complex motorized equipment.

  • Contacts outside vendors to perform work on problems exceeding the capabilities of the department, including requesting and receiving quotes.

  • Performs a variety of horticultural task (e.g. mowing, mulching, tree trimming, etc.)

  • Assist with loading, unloading and storing supplies, furniture and equipment.

  • Basic ability to read, interpret and work from blue prints, drawings, or oral instruction on a variety of structures related to a construction project.

  • Request and directly supervise/monitor inmate labor (Trustee) to assist in maintenance duties, constantly ensuring the accountability of all tools, resources, etc used by the trustee.



  • High School Diploma or equivalent, i.e., GED.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Experience working in a prison or jail environment, preferable.
