This position performs specialized duties in the implementation of assigned athletic and recreation programs.  Guidelines include city policies and procedures, the Georgia Recreation Parks Association Athletic Manual, and the rules and regulations governing team sports.  Contacts are with co-workers, vendors, volunteers, school officials, program participants, and members of the general public and are to provide services, to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to motivate or influence persons.  This position organizes and administers sports programs; conducts payer drafts; recruits, selects, trains and supervises coaches; coordinates parent meetings.  Assists in recruiting, interviewing, and supervising part-time personnel.  Maintains scoreboards, basketball goals, and other equipment.  Assists in office operations.  Maintains program records.  Makes recommendations for the purchase of athletic equipment.  Registers participants for sports programs.  Meets with civic and community groups to encourage program participation.  Assists in equipment inventory and maintenance.  Perform related duties.

 

 

Qualifications

Knowledge and level of competency associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, associated with having had a similar position for one (1) to two (2) years. Must possess a valid Georgia Driver’s License. Knowledge of recreation and athletic program administration and scheduling. Knowledge of sport rules and regulations. Skill in the training and supervision of personnel. Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions. Skill in oral and written communication.

Miscellaneous Information

The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The work is performed while sitting at a desk or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and distinguishes between shades of color. The employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, noise, and machinery with moving parts.
