CLASSIFICATION TITLE: ACCOUNTANT

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this job is to maintain current and accurate accounting records for all Glynn County financial transactions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Maintains current and accurate balance of the general ledger analyzes accounts for the nature and accuracy of transactions and prepares journal entries.
  • Maintains accounting records for all County funds: prepares and records journal entries, prepares financial statements, and maintains schedules of cash and investments.
  • Posts all grant account transactions and requests reimbursements from federal and state agencies maintains a schedule of all federal and state grants.
  • Prepares monthly and annual statements of revenue and expenditures for inclusion in management reports. Prepares special reports and financial analyses at the request of management.
  • Assists in preparing the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
  • Provides technical assistance to other departments by setting up or proposing improvements to their financial management procedures.
  • Assists auditors by preparing work papers and schedules and analyzing account balances. Monitors revenues and expenditures of federal and state grants; maintains schedules.
  • Assists in preparing chart of accounts for accounting system.
  • Performs a variety of general accounting/ bookkeeping functions, such as preparing journal entries, balancing accounts, balancing accounting entries, calculating data, entering/posting financial data, balancing/reconciling  reports, researching financial discrepancies, correcting data errors, maintaining financial records, generating reports, or submitting mandatory reports.
  • Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, journal entries, grant reports, revolving loan reports, payroll reports, account history reports, summary reports, grant reports, schedules, or other documents.
  • Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, time sheets, grant documents, audit reports, bank charges reports, bank interest reports, bank statements, financial reports, accounting guidelines, policies, procedures, manuals, directories, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in accounting or financial management with one year of accounting experience required or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
