Summary

The City of College Park Building & Grounds Department is accepting applications for the seasonal position of Park Attendant for the 2024 Spring, Summer & Fall Seasons.

A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park’s existing operational success. The purpose of the position is to support the goals of the Building & Grounds and Recreation & Cultural Arts Departments, which enhance the quality of life for all City of College Park citizens by providing diverse leisure, recreational, and informational services and resources; and acquiring, developing, and maintaining first-class parks, facilities, open space, and trails.

 

Essential Functions

Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures as well as interpret precedents. This position is responsible for policing, monitoring, general maintenance, and the coordination and daily supervision of activities, programs, and events held at various parks and shelters throughout the City. These include park shelters, fields, green spaces, and more. Work is performed under the supervision of the Department of Public Works & the Buildings and Grounds division.
 

  • Monitor City facilities and oversee their use by citizens and the general public; Monitor rental agreements.
  • Monitor and maintain supplies needed to maintain park sanitation; picking up paper and trash. 
  • Provides general cleaning of buildings and restrooms.
  • Reports incidents, injuries, and facility damages to supervisor in a timely manner, while following departmental protocol.
  • Will visit multiple parks and fields during a single shift to ensure all activities are running smoothly.
  • Communicate with Public Works Buildings and Grounds Division personnel via cell phone/radio as needed regarding any problems or safety concerns.
  • Opening and closing the park, patrolling and securing facilities, and reporting repairs needed for playground and picnic equipment.
  • Maintain sanitation control, general maintenance/janitorial services, landscaping, litter patrol, receptacle bag changing, etc. of all City-owned facilities, assist other divisions as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to perform light physical labor in all weather conditions.

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules, and regulations.
  • Skill in performing various manual labor assignments as needed.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and efficiently carry them out with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with residential customers and the general public.
  • Ability to follow necessary safety precautions in all areas of assignment.

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to one hundred (100) pounds, standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day, climbing poles, bending, crouching, or stooping, and using tools and equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguish between shades of color.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED); required.
  • At least 6 (six) months experience in recreational programs, hospitality, customer service, or related areas.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Georgia.
  • Experience in communicating with diverse communities, and in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • Extensive hours and weekends will be required at times.
  • Pre-employment screening is required: criminal background check and drug testing.
