Summary:

Rockdale County's Department of Planning and Development is seeking an intern who will work with the Department's Project Coordinator. The intern will be a direct aid in launching a new community outreach program called PND Panda. The program serves to educate the public on the main responsibilities of our department and provide ease of access to services for the community. Some of the projects include developing Planning and Development 101 Seminars, game software design for "How To" information, and streamlining the volunteering process. This internship will help Rockdale County's efforts in recognizing our citizens' concerns along with being a liaison to the department for the citizens. Through the community outreach program, the intern will assist with citizen and community education, provide a proactive approach to citizen concerns, and help the department execute the overall strategic plan of Rockdale County.  The desired candidate must be able to work between May 1st - September 1st for a total of 200 hours.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop educational game software from concept to production
  • Implement the use of gamification in EdTech in local government operations with a focus on economic development and sustainability.
  • Develop a 2-D Simulation game to promote the use of EdTech in government operations, collaborating with other personnel for accuracy and successful execution.
  • Calibrate game development to ensure its alignment with our department's digital content plan and strategic plan of Rockdale County
  • Attending meetings with Planning & Development staff to discuss road mapping for game elements; contributing to creative discussions.
  • Assists in the development and refinement of game concepts and mechanics.
  • Provide prototype gameplay ideas and/or concepts.
  • Assist in facilitating playtesting sessions that provide constructive feedback before launch.
  • Maintain a database of all project-related records for future reference
  • Researches industry trends to inspire innovative game designs and techniques.
  • Works with personnel to integrate design, sounds, and operational elements into the game.
  • Creates documents and presentations related to the project's educational game development.
  • Leverages EdTech to develop a concept for educational seminars to educate the public on the main responsibilities of the Rockdale County Planning & Development department.
  • Assist in creating processes to streamline our community volunteer programs utilizing technology

 Key Qualifications for this Internship are: 

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a degree in Game Development, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Must be obtaining a BS/BA or Masters
  • Senior year of college/graduated students
  • Interest in government or philanthropic funding programs
  • Critical and analytical thinkers
  • Strong attention to detail and must be organized
  • Outstanding knowledge of MS Office
  • Demonstrates organizational skills, including attention to detail and ability to prioritize and pivot for unexpected deliverables or needs
  • Proficiency in computer programming languages C# or C++
  • A thorough understanding of game design principles, mechanics, and player psychology
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Motivated and enthusiastic team player to contribute and support the department's community outreach program. 
  • Must be versatile, eager to learn, and interested in development
  • Ability to analyze performance data and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Requirements:
  • Must be able to work between May 1st - September 1st for a total of 200 hours.

Compensation: $20 hourly
