ENTRY SALARY: $23.18 per hour, plus benefits
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the mechanical repair and maintenance of department vehicles and equipment. Determines and implements preventative maintenance schedules. Performs general maintenance of all fire equipment; oils and lubricates various components; tunes engines; cleans, repairs, and replaces carburetors, fuel systems, pumps, strainers, fuel lines, fuel tanks, gauges, wires, etc. Repairs and adjusts engines. transmissions, brake systems, hydraulic systems, water pumps, etc. Ensures pump systems provides appropriate volumes of water at specified pressures. Troubleshoots hydraulic and electrical systems. Operates department vehicles and equipment as needed for inspection and testing. Services and repairs HVAC systems. Responds to emergency call-outs and mutual aid requests for mechanic services. Performs emergency field repairs. Purchases parts and supplies. Inspects operability of fire vehicles, heavy fire apparatus, and fire mechanical equipment. Ensures fire apparatus conforms to Department of Transportation and National Fire Protection Association standards. Performs related duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
