Job Description
The Department of Transportation is currently seeking engineer interns to assist in several traffic engineering related projects. This internship opportunity is tailored to students committed to majoring in Engineering or related field. This position would work with experienced engineering staff and perform several tasks.

 Essential Duties

  • Assisting with performing engineering analysis and evaluation of traffic signals and other traffic control devices
  • Assisting with traffic signal upgrades and timing optimization projects
  • Assisting with section administration and maintenance activities such as signal design drawing and equipment inventory
  • Assisting with performing in-house analysis and evaluation studies to include analyzing and evaluating factors to determine transportation needs; preparing technical reports of studies for division/department; evaluating results and determining the most appropriate and cost-effective method of repairing defects; and providing technical review of a variety of operational problems
  • Assisting with responding to citizen service requests by conducting investigations of field conditions, reviewing existing files and recommending solutions as needed

 
Public Speaking Duties

  • Ability to communicate effectively and engage with staff, citizens, leadership, and elected officials as needed. 

Grade
The grade for this position is 97. Salary will be dependent on education and experience.
 
Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
 
Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma/ GED
  • Minimum of one year of college pursing degrees in engineering, construction, or related fields.
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
  • Valid Driver's License
