POSITION SUMMARY     

Under the general direction of the Leisure Services Assistant Director, the employee will direct, implement and supervise the daily operations of athletic and aquatic services and programs for the City’s Leisure Services Department. The incumbent will plan, implement, organize and supervise athletic and aquatic recreation programs for both youth and adults.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists in preparation of the aquatic center and athletic department budgets for all areas including personnel, supplies, services and capital improvements
  • Makes recommendations and assists in the development of the department’s policy and procedure manual
  • Plans, organizes, supervisors, and conducts athletics and aquatic programs and offered by the City of Stonecrest Leisure Services Department
  • Prepares financial reports for athletic association partnerships, in-house programming and aquatic center operations
  • Directs and manages all subordinates in the daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal delivery of services for sports programming and seasonal aquatic center operation
  • Administers on-line registration of related activities
  • Works with team and league officials in the organization of rules and regulations for all programs and schedules.
  • Records and maintains a record keeping database of all activity such as participation, results of league contests and assesses the need for change or expansion of existing programs
  • Delegates work to volunteer parent associations
  • Implements new innovation programs and activities for citizens
  • Conducts inspections of parks and athletic fields and aquatic facilities to ensure safety and proper conditions are feasible for use
  • Holds coaches and volunteer orientation meetings for various youth and adult leagues
  • Markets and promotes the athletic programs and Aquatic Center activities within the community
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of athletic leagues, partnerships, programs, sports camps and activities to determine the overall success of programs.
  • Consults with others on complex problem situations and provides technical expertise;
  • Provides progress and activity reports to senior management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate;
  • Performs related duties as assigned

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Leisure Services Administration or closely related field. Three (3) years of progressively responsible related experience and/or training; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job. 

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia’s driver license.  Must obtain AFO (Aquatic Facilities Operator) or CPO (Certified Pool Operator) license within six (6) months from hire date. Certification in basic first-aid/CPR/AED, and certification as a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) are preferred, or must obtain both within one year of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles, rules, and procedures of aquatic center operations organized competitive sports, athletic and recreational programs, objectives of public recreation and athletic programs.
  • Knowledge of appropriate technology in order to best serve the public and manage programs.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with staff members and/or supervisor.
  • Ability to understand, follow and complete oral and/or written directions.
  • Ability to know how to provide a variety of revenue-based programs in the areas of general recreation programs, athletic leagues, aquatic center and instructional classes.
  • Ability to follow and maintain a budget.
  • Ability to communicate and establish rapport, understanding and confidence with participants and the general public; exercise independent judgment in the application of program and game rules and procedures; plan, promote, organize, and coordinate athletic programs and events; and be a team player in the organization.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office and outdoors.  Exposure to all types of weather and will work around light and heavy equipment.

May work an adjusted schedule for assisting in events occurring after 5:00 p.m. such as meetings, or planned events.
