THE POSITION

Reporting to the Assistant County Manager, the Director of Community Development directs the operations and activities of the Community Development Department, including the Building Permitting, Building Inspections, Code Enforcement, Planning & Zoning sections and Development Review Management sections.

Essential Functions

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals; coordinates staff training. • Coordinates daily work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; conducts staff meetings; confers with assigned staff, assists with complex problem situations, and provides technical expertise.

• Carries out the policy direction of the Board of County Commissioners related to growth management and land development through the development, implementation and administration of the County’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan, Subdivision and Zoning Ordinances, International and Local Building Code enforcement and any other applicable policies: assigns, coordinates, and oversees, Land Code and Comprehensive Plan amendment processes; assigns, coordinates, and oversees numerous special assignments, including development of overlays, neighborhood planning initiatives, and rural area assessments; keeps abreast of pending state legislation and rule changes related to growth management, natural resources protection, and land use issues.

• Consults with County Manager, County Commissioners, elected officials, and other officials to review department operations/activities, review/ resolve problems, receive advice/direction, and provide recommendations.
