Senior Accounting Technician - Administration

Harris County, Georgia, with a population of 36,000 and located in west central Georgia along the Alabama border 60 minutes southwest of Atlanta and 30 minutes north of Columbus, is accepting applications for a full-time Senior Accounting Technician for the Harris County Accounting Department.

The purpose of this position is to provide technical support for the county’s accounting operations. Success in this position contributes to accuracy and completeness of financial reporting and financial transactions. This non-exempt position is responsible for:

• Preparing and processing accounts payable; receiving and reviewing invoices, resolving discrepancies, and verifying account coding.
• Processing cash receipts to include coding revenue, recording journal entries, and bank deposits.
• Assigning purchase order numbers.
• Managing all corporate credit cards; maintaining related records.
• Preparing and disbursing SPLOST funds.
• Managing a variety of bank transactions including wire transfers, bond payments, etc.
• Reporting sales tax for jet fuel and pipe sales.
• Verifying new vendor information.
• Collecting, reporting, and disbursing hotel/motel tax.
• Preparing a variety of regular and special reports.
• Assisting with annual budget preparation and management functions.
• Preparing 1099s.
• Verifying unclaimed property and remits to the state.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include an Associates degree (preferred) and more than three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.

The starting rate of pay is $19.99 plus generous benefits including a five-year vesting schedule for retirement.
