The function of Gwinnett County Department of Planning and Development is to promote and enhance the quality of life of residents, visitors, property owners and businesses of Gwinnett County.  The Department accomplishes its mission through programs and services that encourage high quality development as well as maintenance and revitalization of existing neighborhoods.  The Department consists of the Administration Division, Planning Division, and the Development Division.

This Planner I is responsible for processing and reviewing application submissions, including rezoning, change in condition, special use permit and buffer reduction requests; assisting in text ordinance amendments, planning studies and reports; collecting a variety of statistical data; preparing reports and maps on land use topics; acting as liaison between general public, community groups, government agencies, developers and elected officials concerning zoning and land use matters; conducting field evaluations and assessments; and attending public hearings and meetings, including evening and weekend, as needed.

The grade for this position is C41(1).


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or Planning , or related area of study
  • One year of related experience;
  • and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job as those listed above
  • Valid driver's license


  • Master's Degree in urban planning, architecture, public policy, political science, or related area of study
