This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the overall administration of the City of Flowery Branch Public Works Department.  Maintains oversight over all facets of public works, including Street Department, Vehicle Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance and Storm Water. Directs and evaluates the daily operations of the department. Assures safety of all employees and completion of jobs in a timely manner. Answers citizens’ concerns and addresses them in a timely manner. Hires new employees for the department, rewards and disciplines employees as needed. Assigns work orders; ensures work orders are performed accurately and in a timely manner. Prepares departmental budget for City Manager approval; administers public works budget and approves purchases; monitors expenditures. Communicates with directors and employees from other departments, contractors, as necessary. Attends all related seminars concerning management and operations of public works. In addition, responsible for the transmission of drinking water and the collection system for sanitary sewer.  Works directly with the City Manager for all projects concerning the betterment of the City of Flowery Branch. Keeps abreast of all local, state and federal regulations pertaining to public works and the development of the city.  Performs related duties.
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, or stooping. The employee must occasionally lift light and heavy objects, use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and be able to distinguish between shades of color. The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, where the employee is exposed to machinery with moving parts, noise, dust, dirt, or grease. The work may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
