The City of Americus operates under the City Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority are vested in the governing body which consists of a Mayor and six council members all elected on a nonpartisan basis. Council members serve four-year staggered terms, with three council members elected every two years. The Mayor is elected at large to serve a four-year term. The six council members are elected by district. The governing body is responsible for passing ordinances, adopting the budget and appointing the City Manager, Municipal Court Judge and the City Attorney. The City Manager is responsible for carrying out the policies and ordinances of the governing body and for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the government.

Job Description

The City of Americus is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of City Facilities and Parks Maintenance Manager.  The beginning salary for this position is $45,976 annually ($22.10/ hour).

Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to developing, implementing, and overseeing the City's Facilities & Parks Management program by directing, monitoring, coordinating and performing the operations, maintenance and repair of City buildings and assigned City Parks and their associated support systems, such as HVAC, electrical, lighting, fire systems, security card access control systems, and intrusion alarm systems; and also serves as liaison between tenants at Rees Park Economic Development Center for building repairs and maintenance, fire and security alarm, and building functions, and coordinates special events held in the Rees Park Economic Development Center Community Room; handles facility rentals including rental fees, setting up room, meeting with caterers, assisting with audio-visual equipment and ensuring that all facility rules and regulations are followed; must be available to respond to renter needs and special activity requests scheduled outside of regular office hours and on weekends.

Requirements include an Associate’s Degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two (2) years of college in construction, construction management, engineering or related field; Requires four (4) years of experience in building construction, maintenance or property management. Professional Facility Management designation is desired; Preferential consideration is given to those individuals that hold a Professional Facility Management Certification; Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record Required qualifications may be any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.
